What products can you take for cold and flu prevention?
It’s cold outside….or in Iowa, I should be honest…it’s freezing. This is cold and flu season and also that time of year where many patients get sinus infections and other upper respiratory infections. So I wanted to share some products that you can take for cold and flu prevention to protect and prevent yourself, from getting sick.
First, we have ViraSupport.
Think of this as being your go-to product to help you fight off viruses. The minute you think you’ve been exposed this product should be taken. It’s loaded with Vitamins to boost immune health: Vitamin A and C, also zinc, and it has Black elderberry, and the herbs: Andrographis, astragalus, and echinacea. These herbs help to increase white blood cells when they are depleted.
Again, this is something that can be taken if you feel like you are getting the flu or another virus but must be taken before the virus replicates. The goal is to take a capsule every few hours for the first 24 hours of exposure, then you can take a few/day that week. This is not something you take forever. It is used to help you fight off viruses quickly!
*If you are pregnant this product is not for you because of the Vitamin A dosage. Please avoid if pregnant or nursing.
Next, we have Sinus Support.
This product is used for sinus infections, head colds, and other upper respiratory infections. This product was created based on a landmark Mayo Clinic study in 1998 that found most individuals suffering from chronic sinusitis has yeast/fungus in their nasal cavities. This makes sense, right? Many patients with sinus infections are given what? Antibiotics, which wipe out bad bacteria, but also good bacteria….and then what likes to grow in deep dark cavities, like the sinuses… yeast!
Therefore, it can be difficult to truly get rid of sinus infections UNTIL you treat the yeast/fungus, whatever word you want to use.
I’ve described this product in other presentations to contain a 4 pronged approach for your health. It contains the following 4 prongs:
- Berberine and thyme are natural antifungals to hit that fungus the Mayo Clinic found.
- NAC is a natural mucolytic kind of like Mucinex to thin your secretions so you can get them out.
- Turmeric is a natural anti-inflammatory like Ibuprofen to open up your airways.
- Lastly, it also contains herbal immune boosters like Eleutherococcus (Siberian Ginseng) and Andrographis.
The dose of this product is 3/day when you start to feel congestion, think you are getting a cold or sinus infection. It’s typically taken for a week.
Many of my patients are able to AVOID use of antibiotics by using these above products.
