Today I want to talk about Nitric Oxide. This molecule is a vasodilator, which means it relaxes the inner muscles of your blood vessels, causing them to widen ultimately lowering blood pressure. It’s great to reduce the stress placed on our cardiovascular systems.
Supplements exist to help with Nitric Oxide production. You may have heard of beet-based products like beet powder that are supposed to boost Nitric Oxide. They have recently become very popular. We even carry a bone broth protein powder with beets! While powders like such can help, another product I recommend that we carry is called NOX support.
I’ll start by explaining that many NO boosting products typically contain the amino acid L-arginine which is the precursor for the production of NO. It can also greatly help to reduce blood pressure. Many arginine products also contain L-citrulline, because it is recycled back into arginine, helping to make even more nitric oxide.
Athletes use these to support the flow of blood and oxygen to the skeletal muscles and to help remove exercise-induced lactic acid buildup, thus reducing fatigue and recovery time.
Arginine doses can be increased from one gram up to five grams. Blood pressure should be monitored to verify it is not becoming too low.
L-citrulline’s popularity has been increasing, and it has been replacing arginine. It is one of the best options for sustained NO, also increasing endothelial function. It has a longer half-life than arginine.
Many of my patients may use this for lowering blood pressure, for erectile dysfunction, or simply exercise performance and muscle soreness.
This of it as helping with blood flow delivering oxygen to your tissues. This is awesome for recovery.
The LB product I recommend is NOX Support. It also has a little grape seed extract and quercetin as anti-inflammatories and antioxidants.
It provides a blend of targeted nutrients designed to help dampen stress placed on cells lining your vessels, support arterial elasticity, optimal nitric oxide levels, and blood flow.
NOX Support provides a powerful formula for those seeking to optimize several mechanisms of cardiovascular health.
As always alert your health care provider of any supplement you are taking and work with your health care provider on the dosing that is right for you.
